Presentation Night 2015

A sell-out crowd of more than 180 people attended the night, which acknowledged the players and their achievements.

CYMS stood proud in Group XI again this year with premiership winning performances in 1st grade under coach Tim Ryan; and in the under-18s through the efforts of coach Gerry ‘Chicka’ Merritt and his players. Craig Roworth’s reserve graders just fell short of the mark, beaten in the second week of the final series.

CYMS coaches Tim Ryan, Gerry Merritt and Craig Roworth were all warm in their appreciation to the players, supporters, club directors and sponsors for their contribution to a successful 2015 season. Tim paid special mention to the wives, partners and families of his first grade players who have put up with long nights at training and away games. The support staff including trainers, physio, managers and selectors were also acknowledged.

LUKE Jenkins became the first player to win two Ken McMullen Medals as the 2015 Group 11 season ended on a high for Dubbo CYMS at its annual presentation dinner on Saturday night. Few would dispute the quality of Luke Jenkins’ resume for the Ken McMullen Medal, an award he first won in 2011. CYMS President Kevin Walkom acknowledged that Luke had had 15 years with CYMS and all being well at the end of 2016 could reach a record 300 games for the Fishies.Kevin said he believed Luke had played in 11 grand finals for CYMS and won seven or eight. Congratulations Luke Jenkins.

Dubbo CYMS Old Boys:

This mighty group of men who work feverishly behind the scenes for CYMS are never short of surprises. As well as supporting the club financially with more than $20,000 from their weekly Joker Jackpot draws held Thursday nights at the Pastoral Hotel, they handed over $250 each to four CYMS players who represented Western Rams in 2015: John Grey, Colby Pellow, Kieran Cubby and Jyie Chapman. Amazing. Although Old Boys president Bryan O’Sullivan was overseas on holidays he was ably represented at the dinner by a group of members with Vice-president Tod O’Dea, Andrew Hamblin and Tom Gray assisting with presentations. Thanks CYMS Old Boys.

Coaches for 2016 appointed:

Preparations for next season are already underway with Tim Ryan gunning for three successive premiership seasons as first grade coach. As well, some of old favorites are back on board as coaches. Wayne Sing and Bernard Wilson will join forces with the under-18s and Joel Rapley and Nick Wilson will shape the reserve grade challenge. We wish them well. And no doubt these men will be putting together a strong support team around them.

Two new Life Members:

Congratulations to Barry and Norm O’Neill who have been made Life Members of the Dubbo CYMS football club. Both have been involved since 2006 as trainers of all three grades and are usually first to arrive and last to leave training and game days, along with our physio Paula O’Leary they put in a lot of time and effort looking after the welfare of the players before, during and after games.

CYMS annual meeting:

The 2015-year still has some major business to attend to with players, supporters, sponsors and friends invited to the annual meeting to be held Monday night, November 2 from 6pm at Crowe Horwath Accountants and Advisors in Blue Ridge Industrial Estate. Positions on the 2016 season board of directors will be available and anyone who would like further information on the role of director is asked to please contact Kevin Walkom as soon as possible.

CYMS sporting expansion:

Group 11’s Women’s league TAG competition will go into overdrive in 2016 and Dubbo CYMS will be there. Chrystal Thompson will put the Fishies team together with Shane Madden and Chicka Merritt as the coaches. The girls will be playing first up each Sunday and we look forward to seeing no less than four teams in the finals in 2016.

The Dubbo CYMS rugby league football club has also taken CYMS Cricket Club under his its banner and will also field Summer Touch competition teams. This coming Saturday CYMS will extend its community relations arm to assist the Dubbo DREAM Festival committee by operating the bar at Victoria Park during the markets and lantern parade night.

BRIEFLY:

THE inaugural John ‘Bumper’ Kennedy Memorial Trophy was presented on Saturday night by his daughter Narelle Garling. The first time winner was our highly talented utility back Tony Pellow. Sadly CYMS and the Old Boys lost their very special friend just on a year ago.

Kylie Hull and 1st grade player Tony Pellow carried off Best Dressed prizes at the presentation dinner. Kylie and her team at AJ Gallagher Insurance are valued sponsors of Dubbo CYMS.

The FISHPOND expansion will continue in the New Year, we are aiming for even more members in 2016. The Fishpond representation at home and away games, combined with the CYMS Old Boys Grandstand, provided a warm and appreciative atmosphere for the players.

SPONSORSHIP proposals for the new season are also being finalized and we know that Damien Porter and his small group of people will be looking to expand their list of supporters who play a very important role in our great club
