Newsletter: March 2015

FISHPOND members are gearing up for another season with CYMS aiming to make another huge imprint on the Group 11 premierships. Tim Ryan and his mighty first grade took the title from Parkes in the 2014 grand final. Training has been hard work in the heat but come grand final time we hope to have an edge. CYMS kicked off the season last Sunday with first grade and juniors going to Parkes for the inaugural 9’s comp where plenty of promise was shown for another successful season for the mighty green and white.

DUBBO CYMS will open the season with two home games, firstly against Narromine on Sunday 12th April and Westside Sunday 19th April, currently our club people are working their way through the draw to explore possibilities of having some night games. More about that when the season gets underway. CYMS will play one game in the Group 11 pre-season, at home in Dubbo against Cobar on Sunday, March 22.

The CYMS playing roster is looking very strong again with only a couple of players from last year’s grand final side not lining up again and some exciting new signings including Chris Barnett (originally from Dubbo but has been playing with Cobar), Ash Conn (Macquarie), Scott Burgess (Union), Billy Sing (Back from Sydney) and plenty of juniors hoping to crack the big time!

THE 2015 football season will be the second for Fishpond Membership and after its inaugural success we are hoping to build on our numbers to support the CYMS club and have a recognizable culture for its players and supporters, but also provide a revenue stream for the football club.

FISHPOND MEMBERSHIP cost will remain the same as last year and includes:

  • Membership card (you will have the same membership number) which gets you into all home games
  • An official Fishpond supporter’s shirt
  • Official Fishpond stubby holder
  • Admittance into the ‘Fishbowl’ for all our home games. With the local derby against Macquarie there will be a luncheon and drinks provided.

There will also be some complimentary drinks at the Fishpond launch on the Friday before the first competition game, which is against Narromine at Caltex Park scheduled for April 12. Spread the word about Fishpond Membership and we’d love to have you on board.

KURRI KURRI are heading to Dubbo and play CYMS and St John’s junior teams on Saturday, March 28. With Caltex Park out of action during March because of regrowth work, we are hosting the games at the new Barden Park Athletics Stadium in North Dubbo. The junior games will get underway at 9am and under-18s start the senior program at 2.30pm. This new association with Kurri Kurri will see about 800 players and supporters come to Dubbo.

WELCOME newlyweds Brooke and Jyie Chapman who celebrated with family and friends on Saturday, March 7. Jyie had a fabulous season in 2014 and we look forward too much of the same this time around. Congratulations from the CYMS family. Brooke is also taking an active role with CYMS, working with Rachael Porter and others to get a new Dubbo CYMS website up and running. We also send our congratulations to Ilisoni and Talica who recently welcomed a new baby boy to the family.

CASTLERAGH HOTEL will again be ‘home’ to CYMS this year and a big night is on offer after the March 28 games against Kurri. Talks are currently underway to provide a calendar of events for all CYMS supporters and we look forward to an exciting year of football on and off the field in 2015.

VOLUNTEERS are very much a part of Dubbo CYMS and this season will be no different. We will need help in the canteen for our homes games; selling game doubles and raffle tickets and we invite mums and dads and their families to give us an hour or two every now and then.

CYMS volunteers are asked to register with the Country Rugby League before the season starts, a direction that has come through Group 11. Please find link below:

Any volunteers/committee members having problems with registering please contact Dubbo CYMS Club Registrar - Matt O'Hehir after 4pm. Email: matohehir7@hotmail.com or mobile 0447 880 444.

CYMS Old Boys will again play an important role in the new season and Fishpond members are invited to take part in the weekly raffles and popular Joker Jackpot draw at the Pastoral Hotel each Thursday night.

ANZAC DAY for Dubbo CYMS will be at the Castlereagh Hotel this year on April 25. You will remember a successful day was held at the old St Brigid’s Church hall in 2014, but that facility is no available this time, so all roads lead to the ‘Reagh’. Spread the word and we assure everyone there will be no shortage of friends to spend some time with.
