KIERAN Cubby-Shipp deflected the praise towards his forward pack on Sunday after his five-try performance helped CYMS convincingly defeat the Parkes Spacemen.

The match was scrappy at times but the 44-12 result was a massive one for the men in green and white considering Parkes have been their most difficult opponent for the past three seasons.

Cubby-Shipp ran in four of his tries in the second half as the Fishies ran out dominant victors.

"I only play well off the back of what the other guys do and they make the breaks and all the hard yards and I just come in and take all the credit," the fullback laughed.

"But they do a lot of work up front and that helps me.

"We missed a few goals and gave away a lot of ball but other than that we dug deep when we needed to and got over them."

It was only Parkes' second loss of the season but it continued a worrying trend of defensive lapses.

The Spacemen have now conceded 152 points in their last four matches and captain and fullback Sam Dwyer admitted it wasn't good enough.

"Our defence is something we have to work on because we can score points when we want to but the defence is killing us at the moment," he said, before speaking about his side's attacking performance against the Fishies.

"We could get ourselves in good field position but then we didn't have any shape whatsoever and were flat and not showing anything at all."

The match was an even contest early before CYMS lifted and opened the scoring on 11 minutes when Cubby-Shipp followed through his own grubber.

Further CYMS tries to Luke Jenkins and Colby Pellow were sandwiched by a Parkes four-pointer from replacement prop Anthony Redfern to make the score 14-4 at the half hour mark.

Jenkins grabbed his second just before the break and Alex Bonham got his boot working to add the extras.

The crowd had barely settled for the second stanza when John Grey planted down a grubber in the corner to extend the lead and then it became the Cubby-Shipp show.

The fullback's support play was outstanding and he scored four tries in 28 minutes, his best consisting of a jinking run which got him past four Parkes defenders.

Parkes also scored twice through Brandon Paige and Western Rams forward Brendan Tago but they were never truly in the contest in the second half.

"We gave away 10 errors at least and probably only let in one or two tries from them so it was pleasing to hold them out," Cubby-Shipp said of his side's determination in defence.

CYMS are one of the six sides to have a bye next weekend while Parkes will look to bounce back in the only fixture of the round against local rivals Forbes.

DUBBO CYMS 44 (Kieran Cubby-Shipp 5, Luke Jenkins 2, Colby Pellow, John Grey, Bonham 4 conversions) defeated PARKES SPACEMEN 12 (Anthony Redfern, Brandon Paige, Brendan Tago tries)
