CYMS coach Tim Ryan said it was a pleasing result in "very trying conditions".

"We got up in the end there. We played well," Ryan said.

"Very wet over there, it rained all day.

"Very trying conditions but we're playing well as a team and had a good victory."

After 39 minutes the game looked all tied up - with both sides having claimed two converted tries apiece - before CYMS crossed for their third right on the buzzer to take an 18-12 lead into the break.

In the second Forbes continued to make trouble for the defending premiers, but could not convert their opportunities and CYMS put on another 16 unanswered points to secure the victory.

"The weather was definitely the big challenge. The ball was pretty slippery and both sides had trouble controlling the ball," Ryan said.

"They're a good side, they did [challenge us]. There was a lot of dropped ball but both sides put a lot of pressure on each other."

The win continues CYMS unbeaten run in 2016, after they downed Dubbo Macquarie 24-22 in the opening round and saw off Narromine 64-10 the following week.

But just three rounds into the season and a general bye scheduled for this weekend, Ryan said the Fishies were not getting too excited about their string of victories just yet.

"We don't worry too much about that. It's only round three so a lot of footy to come," he said.

"We've got the general bye now so... we'll just sort of enjoy the break, and get back into it with Wellington in two weeks' time."

The first grade victory topped off a strong day for CYMS, after the visitors down Forbes 20-6 in reserve grade and 26-4 in the women's league tag.

The hosts got a win through their under-18s side, who downed CYMS 30-10.
