Dubbo CYMS have completed their unbeaten Group 11 season after a nail-biting 28-24 victory over Nyngan Tigers on Sunday.

Jyie Chapman went over out wide with just three minutes left to put his side in front after the scores were locked at 24-all.

Nyngan lost more than just the game, missing out on a possible top-two finish and dropping to third but were still happy with their performance.

CYMS opened the scoring through Jarren Powyer after the front-rower showed some evasive skills on the way to the line.

From the kick-off CYMS captain Luke Jenkins went wide and found space before passing to Colby Pellow, who raced 60 metres for a try.

It was a good day for front-rowers with Rod Coates scoring the first try for the Tigers to get the scores back to 12-6

The visitors then locked the scores after three penalties and the sin-binning of Chapman gave them a golden opportunity, as Shane Lalogafou got across the line.

Two penalty goals for CYMS’ Alex Bonham gave the hosts a 16-12 lead at the break. Just a minute into the second half Nyngan levelled again, Troy Evans finding space and passing to Hammond Erepan.

The teams traded penalty goals before Pellow got his second try, and another penalty goal restored CYMS’ six point gap 24-18.

.A thrilling finish was assured after the Tigers drew level yet again, this time through second-rower Luke Moody. The ensuing goal from Pickering made it 24-all with 10 to go.

CYMS looked in a spot of trouble when Wade Kavanagh was sin-binned with six minutes remaining for throwing a punch.

But despite the numerical disadvantage, Dubbo winger Hayden Howell cut his way through some tired defence and raced down field, leading to Chapman going over out to the right.

It gave CYMS a crucial four-point lead they were able to defend until the siren.

DUBBO CYMS 28 (Colby Pellow 2, Jarren Powyer, Jyie Chapman tries; Alex Bonham 6 goals) defeated NYNGAN TIGERS 24 (Rod Coates, Shane Lalogafou, Hammond Erepan, Luke Moody tries; Brad Pickering 4 goals).
