IT was a game of two halves in the Group 11 on Sunday as Dubbo CYMS racked up a 54-point over cross-town rivals Westside at No. 1 Oval.

Greasy conditions frustrated both teams in the opening half, with one player per side sin binned as CYMS got away to an 18-6 lead.

But it was a new-look CYMS that came out in the second after some stern words from coach Tim Ryan, and they ran away to win the game 60-6.

"Probably just the conditions bogged us down a little bit and we just didn't play how we wanted to play," CYMS coach Tim Ryan said.

"We probably weren't patient as well. We probably tried to push that pass a little bit and probably rushed things a little bit and tried to score points where we hadn't done the work early to earn those points.

"I spoke to them at half time, just to probably be more patient and play our game a bit more and just try to get forward, kick to the corners and complete our sets mainly which we didn't do in the first half... it was a much better second half."

The game looked to be a tough contest from the outset as the two sides traded sets, but it was always going to be CYMS' game to lose.

With a few players out due to injury and others playing out of position, home-team Westside were struggling as the Fishies slipped through tackle after tackle it.

It was just a matter of time until CYMS got on board and after some persistent attacking play hooker Luke Jenkins crossed from dummy half in the seventh minute. Alex Bonham added the extras to give CYMS a 6-0 lead.

It was nearly 10 minutes before CYMS again put points on the board through Jaryn Powyer and Bonham to make it a 12-point lead.

The sides traded sets before CYMS lost a player to the sin bin, but it didn't phase the visitors as they continued the attacking pressure.

Two straight tries were disallowed after passes were ruled forwards, but a set later Kieran Cubby-Shipp showed some amazing footwork to cross for his first of the day.

It looked like CYMS would take the 18-0 lead into the break but when a tackle five kick bounced in favour Westside's Sam Coe, he tore away for 60 metres before anyone could catch him. But the damage was done and two tackles later Steve Riley found a gap and scored just ten seconds out from half time. A successful conversion by EJ Fernando set the half-time score at 18-6.

But the Fishies came out firing in the second, and there was little the ailing Westside could do.

"I thought the boys dug deep," Westside coach Robbie Dunn said.

"We had a few out and then we had a lot of injuries on the bench, we had no back up so we were playing sort of with 12, 11 men and two injured.

"I'm not looking for any excuse, CYMS played well, but we're a better side than that."

Earlier in the day CYMS downed Westside 26-0 in the league tag, while the under-18 couldn't be separated at 18-apiece.

DUBBO CYMS 60 (Kieran Cubby-Shipp 2, Lincoln Kavanagh 2, Luke Jenkins, Jaryn Powyer, John Grey, Jordan Reynolds, Wade Kavanagh, Colby Pellow, Shaquille Gordon tries; Alex Bonham 3, Colby Pellow 5 conversions) def DUBBO WESTSIDE 6 (Steve Riley try, EJ Fernando conversion)
